Policy Commitment Policy Requirements

1) Responsibility

JTI will be a responsible member of society committed to continuous improvement in EHS  

  • EHS risks, strategy and performance considered at senior management level throughout the business
  • Continually improve our EHS performance through state-of-the-art EHS management systems and objective and target setting

2) Compliance

JTI will meet or exceed EHS legal requirements and respect international agreements

  • Identify, assess and comply with relevant local, regional and national legal requirements
  • Comply with JTI Global EHS Standards
  • Conduct EHS compliance audits across all operations

3) Communication

JTI will openly communicate EHS performance and enter into dialogue with stakeholders

  • Communicate EHS requirements to all employees, and contracted third parties, and develop a culture which encourages personal responsibility for EHS
  • Establish dialogue with interested parties in order to exchange information on, and address, key EHS issues
  • Report publicly and transparently on EHS performance

4) Safety

JTI will provide a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and aim to eliminate all occupational injuries and illnesses

  • Use risk assessment as the basis to identify, assess and control workplace hazards and risks
  • Investigate injuries and cases of occupational illness
  • Monitor and report health and safety performance
  • Implement improvement plans which are committed to eliminating occupational injury and illness

5) Environmental impact

JTI will minimize environmental impacts and optimize the use of natural resources

  • Formally identify environmental impacts and establish programs to minimize them
  • Drive efficiency by optimizing the use of raw materials and natural resources
  • Eliminate, reduce and reuse waste and maximize recycling

6) Lifecycle

JTI will manage the EHS impacts of our own operations and seek to have positive influence on our supply chain

  • Take EHS considerations into account during the selection of contractors, contract manufacturers and suppliers
  • Implement EHS improvements in new product/ packaging design and manufacture
  • Identify and assess EHS impacts in our supply chain and strive to reduce them

7) Integration

JTI will ensure that EHS considerations are fully integrated into all activities

  • Ensure EHS policy principles are applied when making business decisions
  • Provide managers with objective EHS data to support decision making process
