A benchtop reflow oven is a compact, tabletop heating device designed for surface-mount technology (SMT) printed circuit board (PCB) assembly, repair, and prototyping. Unlike large industrial conveyor reflow systems, it occupies minimal space and delivers precise thermal control for small-batch production, research labs, educational training, and electronic maintenance. At its core, the benchtop reflow oven melts solder paste to form permanent electrical and mechanical bonds between SMD components and PCB pads. It follows a programmable thermal profile with four key stages: preheat, soak, reflow, and cooling. Preheat gradually raises the board temperature to activate flux and evaporate solvents, preventing thermal shock. The soak stage stabilizes temperatures across the PCB to ensure uniform heating. Some models combine infrared (IR) radiation for faster, more focused heating. Equipped with digital controls and LCD screens, they let users edit, store, and run custom temperature curves, making them compatible with lead-free and specialty solder pastes.
